Openserve to shutdown ADSL in fibre ready areas 01 September 2020
Openserve has announced that as of the 1st of September, they will be shutting down all ADSL lines in areas that have fibre connectivity available.
A letter went out to ISP’s stating that in areas where Openserve Fibre Connect was available, that all copper and DSL services would come to an end. Openserve says that this is to try push more areas to upgrade services to newer generation technology.
Openserve said the following: “We will be upgrading all copper broadband services to fibre broadband services in areas where Openserve Fibre Connect (OFC) is already available, to this end, we will therefore also be discontinuing all existing DSL and Openserve Copper Connect (OCC) services in these areas.”
Customer migration to fibre
Openserve has requested that ISP’s help migrate customers from DSL services to fibre so that when the time comes to shut down the copper and DSL lines, there won’t be anyone left with no internet. They also said that fibre installations in these areas will be free of charge. Openserve also told ISP s that “Openserve assures you of our intention to carry out our broadband network infrastructure upgrade with the least amount of disruption to your customers.”
